Alfred David Fitzgerald

Alfred David Fitzgerald, best known as Fitz or Dave, passed away on April 29, 2025, in Matlock, Washington, at the age of 73. Born on February 1, 1952, Dave lived a life defined by generosity, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the details that others might overlook.

He retired as a Captain from the Washington State Department of Corrections, a position that reflected his strength of character, leadership, and commitment to public service. Outside of work, Dave found joy and peace in hunting, which gave him a meaningful way to connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors.

He is survived by his daughters Cori Malloy, Kelli Fitzgerald, and Jenni Fitzgerald; his brothers Owen Fitzgerald and Richard Fitzgerald; and his sisters Roberta Searles, Valeen Chappell, and Carla Clarey. He also leaves behind brothers-in-law Larry Chappell and Mike Clarey, and sister-in-law Pauline Fitzgerald, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him. Dave was a proud grandfather and a cherished uncle to many.

He was preceded in death by his son John Fitzgerald, his brother-in-law Don Searles, and his parents Gerald and Geneva Fitzgerald.

Dave will be remembered for his big heart, his unwavering dedication to family, and his lifelong love of learning. His presence will be deeply missed, and his legacy will live on in the lives he touched.
