Learn to grow with Master Gardeners at Catalyst Park
Mason County WSU Master Gardeners are offering hands-on gardening workshops every second Saturday from April through November.
The classes are from 10 a.m. to noon at the Master Gardener’s demonstration garden, Catalyst Park, at 799 W. Harvard Ave. in Shelton, and are led by Master Gardeners or other local gardening experts.
Ergonomic Tools and Companion Planting are the topics for May 10 and, since the class runs from 10 a.m. to noon, you’ll have time to stop at the Master Gardener Plant Sale at Lynch Creek Farm before or after.
June 14 is the date when you can learn when and how to fertilize your vegetables, and a bit about native plant biology.
Harvesting and Storage on July 12 will include information on when to harvest your garden vegetables and share tips on storing them.
Herb Gardens, on Aug. 19, will include information on creating and maintaining your own herb garden, regardless of how much space you have.
The ever-popular subject of Seed Saving will be Sept. 13, when you will learn techniques for creating your own seed bank.
Bulb Lasagna, the art of layering flowering bulbs in pots to create successive displays of blooming flowers, is on Oct. 11.
The series will culminate on November 8, with Native Plant Propagation, featuring our own new native plant nursery.
There will be demonstrations and hand-outs for all.
The classes are at the picnic tables at Catalyst Park and the atmosphere will be relaxed and fun.
We welcome gardeners of all levels and provide opportunities to ask questions.
If you are an experienced gardener or just thinking that you might give gardening a try this year, you will find these classes interesting.
Please register at 2025cgworkshops.cheddarup.com; it pays to register early because the first 20 people to
register for each class will receive a free take-home kit based on the day’s topic.
