Election filings

Ten people are competing for four seats on the Shelton City Council in the November election, but only one race will be on the Aug. 5 primary ballot.

Deputy Mayor Sharon Schirman faces challengers Carl Rhodes, Kenneth G. Mobley and Douglas Peterson as council member No. 3. The two top vote getters will advance to the November general election.

In November, Mayor Eric Onisko and Holly Cahoon square off to be member No. 4. Incumbent Lyndsey Sapp faces Shaena Garberich to be member No. 6, and incumbent Miguel Gutierrez competes against Daniel Velasco for member No. 7.

Friday was the deadline to file for 51 offices on the ballot, and 67 candidates did so. The ballot includes races for fire commissioners in Districts 4, 5, 6, 12, 13, 17 and 18, and commissioners for Public Hospitals Districts 1 and 2.

School board positions are up for grabs in the Shelton, North Mason, Hood Canal, Pioneer, Grapeview, McCleary and Elma school districts. The Port of Dewatto, Port of Grapeview and Port of Shelton have five openings and a single candidate for each one.

In the Shelton School District, incumbent James Dale is running unopposed for an unexpired two-year term. Board president Matt Welander will face Gabriel Mora.

One race for the Mary M. Knight School Board will be on the August ballot. Tracey Ushman, Kayla Mall and Tessa Fatland are vying for position No. 1.
