Easter egg hunt for kids in Union

The New Community Church of Union hosts a community Easter egg hunt starting at 1 p.m. April 19 at 951 E. Dalby Road in Union.

Kids ages one through 12 can participate. Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information, call the church at 360-898-7855.

Ride the rails on Easter Bunny Special

The Peninsular Railway and Lumbermen’s Museum hosts its annual Easter Bunny Special event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Simpson’s former Stillwater yard 10 miles west of Shelton.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for kids. Attendees can get their photo taken with the Easter bunny, enjoy hot chocolate, collects eggs, get a temporary tattoo — and of course ride in a restored caboose behind a restored locomotive.

Learn about local immigration issues

The League of Women Voters of Mason County hosts a presentation on local immigration issues from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Olympic College Shelton library meeting room, 937 Alpine Way.

The presentation is based on the study “Welcoming Immigrants to Washington.” The presentation explores the challenges faced by immigrants, including lawful permanent residents, nonimmigrants (foreign nationals with visas) and undocumented workers in the state. Experts from local agencies, schools, healthcare, legal services and more will share insights. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Mason Republicans want to talk to candidates

The group Mason County Republicans asks “Are you a Republican, conservative, concerned parent or community member thinking about running for an elected position this year?”

Rhododendron show, sale at library

The Shelton chapter of the American Rhododendron Society hosts its annual flower show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 26 and 27 at the Shelton Timberland Library, 710 W. Alder St.

Along with floral displays showcasing a large variety of rhododendrons in the area, there will be information on caring for rhododendrons, including pruning, fertilizing and common pests and diseases. The event also offers activities for children. Volunteers will answer questions and plants will be sold in the parking lot next to the rain garden.

Admission is free.

Spellers wanted for Sound Learning fundraiser

The nonprofit Sound Learning seeks spelling bee participants for the 29th annual Spell-E-Bration fundraiser hosted from 4 to 8 p.m. May 10 at the Pavilion at Sentry Park, 190 W. Sentry Drive, Shelton.

The event to raise money to help adult literacy programs includes the spelling bee with teams of three, an appetizer and dessert buffet, a silent auction and more. To join a spelling bee team, call Sound Learning at 360-426-9733.

Community concert spotlights Motown

The Mason County Concert Association’s 2024-25 season concludes with “Legacy Motown and More” from 3 to 5 p.m. April 27 at the Shelton School District Performing Arts Center at Shelton High School, 3737 N. Shelton Springs Road.

Admission is $30 at the door.

Legacy is an international male vocal group from New York City. The cast includes members from Broadway’s acclaimed production of “Motown the Musical.” A news release from the Mason County Community Concert Association states “these remarkable entertainers deliver show-stopping performances featuring iconic concert hits spanning from The Beatles to Bruno Mars and everything in between. With dynamic performances witnessed all over the world in theaters, luxury cruise lines, performing art centers and corporate events, Legacy’s shows are filled with powerhouse vocals, smooth dance moves and genuine charm. Their signature show, ‘Motown and More,’ invite audiences on a high-energy musical journey through decades, offering something for everyone.”

Hospital district, health services in North Mason

Mason County Public Hospital District No. 2 and Peninsula Community Health Services have entered into an agreement in which MCPHD2 will be the funding source for PCHS in the North Mason area.

PCHS already provides health care services in Mason, Kitsap and rural Pierce counties. The agreement will allow PCHS to expand its current health care services in the Belfair, Tahuya and Dewatto areas, For more information, go to pchsweb.org or http://www.mcphd2.org.
