Learn how Shelton City Council operates

Anyone considering running for a spot on the Shelton City Council or wants to learn more about how the city operates can attend the event “Spotlight Shelton: City Government 101” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. April 29 at the Shelton Civic Center, 525 W. Cota St.

The Shelton City Council has seven members who are responsible for policy-making for the city. Each is elected to a four-year term. Council members are elected citywide and four spots are up for grabs in the fall election.

Four council members are serving terms that expire at the end of this year: Shelton Mayor Eric Onisko, Deputy Mayor Sharon Schirman, Miguel Gutierrez and Lyndsey Sapp.

Food bank benefits from Empty Bowls

The Shelton Arts Commission donated $2,915 to The Saints’ Pantry Food Bank, raised by donations from participants at the 20th annual

Empty Bowls project.

The Empty Bowls project is a creative effort to fight hunger. Participants create ceramic bowls, building them on the first night at the Shelton Civic Center, and glazing them a week later. On the third night, patrons for a $10 donation choose a bowl and enjoy soup and bread.

The restaurants and catering services that donated soup and bread this year included Taylor Shellfish, Kern’s Kitchen, High Steel Beer Co., CJ’s Corner, Wild & Woodsy Catering and Olympic Bakery & Deli.
