New president at North Mason Chamber
North Mason Chamber of Commerce President Stephanie Rowland announced she is stepping down and Kerry London Myers will be the new chamber president, according to a statement from Board Chair Mendy Harlow.
“After guiding us through a pivotal time of change over the past year, Stephanie Rowland has made the decision to step down as Chamber president. We are incredibly grateful to Stephanie for coming out of retirement and stepping up when the Chamber needed her most. Her steady leadership and deep commitment have been invaluable in helping us navigate a challenging transition period,” Harlow wrote.
Rowland will remain with the chamber as a staff member and work with London Myers through the end of April, according to the statement.
London Myers had lived in the Hood Canal area for more than 40 years and owns Be The Traveler Concierge, a tourism and property management company.
Community Response Team volunteers needed
The North Mason Regional Fire Authority is looking for Community Response Team volunteers and will host an informational meeting at Station 81, 14880 NE North Shore Road, Tahuya, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on April 17.
Volunteers are specifically needed in the Tahuya area, according to NMRFA.
“As a CRT member, you will play a vital role in assisting first responders during emergencies by providing traffic control and flagging at incident scenes supporting fire scene activities, such as rehab and logistical support, offering basic first aid, and assisting with large-scale disaster response efforts,” according to a news release.
Volunteers will attend 28 hours of initial training, including basic life saving skills, teamwork, incident command systems, emergency preparedness and disaster response, according to the release.

Virtual roller-coaster coming to library
Learn about roller coasters and experience a virtual ride 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Belfair library, 23081, state Route 3, Belfair.
A librarian will talk about roller coasters throughout the world and attendees can use a VR headset to experience a roller-coaster ride.
Sub zero ice cream workshop
Learn about liquid nitrogen and ice cream at a workshop from 1:30 to 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Belfair library, 23081, state Route 3, Belfair.
The STEM presentation will educate kids about the properties of liquid nitrogen and demonstrate ice cream-making, with samples available.
Belfair litter pickup needs volunteers
Volunteers are needed for a litter pickup starting at 9 a.m. Saturday on state Route 3 from state Route 106 to just past the McDonald’s in Belfair.
The cleanup is organized by the North Mason Chamber of Commerce and the North Mason Kiwanis. Register on the chamber website at northmasonchamber.com under the event calendar.
Volunteers meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at the chamber office, 30 NE Romance Hill Road, Belfair.
Gear, including orange safety vests, is provided.
HUB needs Easter donations and volunteers
The HUB Center for Seniors is accepting candy and small toy donations to stuff in 50,000 eggs for its Easter event, The Hoppening, on April 19.
Volunteers are also needed to fill the eggs.
To volunteer, visit the HUB Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 111 Northeast Old Belfair Highway in Belfair.
