A splash of red

The caboose attached to the historic "Tollie" locomotive gets a fresh coat of paint May 15 in front of the Shelton Post Office on West Railroad Avenue, where it's been since 1983. The Shay locomotive was built in 1924 by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio, and was used by the Simpson Timber Co. first in the high woods and then in town before being retired in 1958. Volunteers also gave "Tollie" a scrub in preparation for next week's Mason County Forest Festival.
