Patient sues Mason Health after breaking leg

A man recovering from hip replacement surgery alleges that his Mason General Hospital nurse improperly asked him to walk on his own, causing him to fall and break his leg.

Bryan Palmer claims his 2021 surgery “was uneventful and went as planned,” in a suit against Mason Public Hospital District No. 1 dba Mason General Hospital filed May 10 in Mason County Superior Court.

Palmer says his injuries happened after a nurse failed to help him walk while he was on medication, still recovering from the surgery.

“Following surgery, the plaintiff was moved to recovery. Plaintiff was asked to walk unassisted by nurse employees or agents of defendant. Plaintiff attempted to comply with the request. The nurses failed to assist him or supervise him and failed to properly utilize assisted safety devices. Plaintiff was unsteady and impaired due to medications and fell,” according to the complaint.

The fall caused “a severe break in his femur,” the complaint states.

Palmer says he’s still suffering from the injuries and wants special and general damages from the hospital for negligence.

He’s represented by Joshua Campbell with Dubin Law Group in Seattle.

“Mason Health is a values and purpose-driven organization that is committed to serving the health care needs of the District and its residents. When issues or problems are brought to our attention, we take them seriously and seek to understand the concern,” MGH Chief Development and Communications Officer Jennifer Capps told the Journal in a statement.
