Final weekend for Shelton musical
Connection Street Theatre stages the musical Comedy “Something Rotten!” at 7 p.m. Friday; 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday; and 2 p.m. Sunday at Faith Lutheran Church, 1212 Connection St., Shelton.

Learn about initiatives on November ballot
The League of Women Voters of Mason County hosts “An Informed Voter is a Powerful Voter” from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Olympic College Shelton library meeting room, 937 Alpine Way, Shelton.
Everyone is welcome. The topics include the three initiatives on the November ballot and the challenges faces by the Mason County Auditor’s Office during an election. The speakers are Cynthia Stewart, advocacy team issue chair with the League of Women Voters of Washington and Mason County Auditor Steve Duenkel. Information: [email protected].
Book signing, reading at Shelton Library
Shelton author Mary May will read from her autographical book “Sheltered by Hope: My Journey Out of Homelessness” at noon Saturday at the Shelton Timberland Library, 710 W. Alder St.
As an advocate for people living on the street, May created the Harvest for the Hungry program that is used in 20 communities. In Shelton, she is involved with Crazy Love Ministries. Copies of her book will be available for $20.
May wrote the book in 2009, a year after she moved to Shelton. It chronicles her years of homelessness in San Diego and credits God for getting her off the streets inspired her to create a meal program with health care clinics.
Development council, police offer training on active threats
The Shelton Police Department, the Mason County Sheriff’s Office and the Economic Development Council of Mason County host a free active-threat training from 3 to 5 p.m. May 28 at the Shelton Civic Center. Information: Tiana Dunbar, 360-426-2276.
Annual Dessert and Silent Auction at Shelton church

Support group for widows at Shelton church
Faith Lutheran Church hosts Good Grief for Widows, a support group that meets at 1 p.m. Wednesdays at the church at 1212 Connection St., Shelton.

Mental health fundraising walk in Shelton
The goals of National Alliance on Mental Illness’ NAMIWalks Thurston-Mason fundraiser June 1 in Shelton are to promote awareness of mental health and reduce the stigma, raise money for NAMI’s free mental health programs, and to build community and let people know they are not alone.
NAMI Thurston-Mason is seeking volunteers to collect donations and participate in the walk that begins and ends at Shelton High School at 3737 N. Shelton Springs Road. Registration and check-in is at 8 a.m., the opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 10 a.m.
The full route is 2 miles, with a 1-mile route. Walkers are welcome to bring strollers, wheelchairs and wagons. Children do need to be registered, so register them online in advance or sign a waiver the day of the walk. For information, go to http://www.namitm.org or email [email protected]. Inaugural Salmon Run 5K benefits youths
The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group hosts the inaugural Hood Canal Salmon Run 5K on from 8 a.m. to noon June 15 at the Salmon Center, 600 Roessel Road, Belfair.
The event will raise money for summer youth programs, including the summer camps Farm Stewards for kids ages 7-11 and Explore the Fjord for ages 12-16.
Registration for the 5K is $30 for adults and $10 for youths and can be done at the HCEG website at http://www.pnwsalmoncenter.org.
Youths 14 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. The course runs through mostly flat, unpaved trails of the Union River Preserve and Theler Wetlands. Water stations will be provided. An event after the run includes a raffle with prizes from local businesses, photo opportunities with the HCSEG mascot Big Red, and free activities such as coloring and cornhole. Event T-shirts can be ordered until today.
