Mardi Gras Gala raises money for youths in need

Help support homeless and at-risk youth in Mason County by attending Mardi Gras Gala 24, a fundraiser for the Shelton Youth Connection on April 6 at the Alderbrook Resort and Spa, 10 E. Alderbrook Drive in Union.

Tickets are $150 per person. Specialty drinks for VIPS are served is from 6 to 6:30 p.m., the social hour and silent auction from 6 to 7 p.m., and the dinner and live auction is at 7 p.m. Information, 1-360-462-0125 and http://www.sheltonyouthconnection.org.

Hundreds of books on sale

The Friends of the Shelton Timberland Library host a spring book sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 13 at the library at 710 W. Alder St.

Only cash will be accepted. Hundreds of books will be available for $1 for paperback and $2 for hardbacked books. A new addition is the sale of “old and interesting” books.

Friends of the Shelton Library will use the proceeds from the sale to support free library programs and events. For more information, call Kathy Abernathy-Robinson at 360-426-5003.

Goldsborough Creek Run registration now open

The Goldsborough Creek Run and Walk, a Mason County Forest Festival event, is scheduled for June 1. Registration is open for the 7-mile walk, 7-mile run, 2-mile run or walk, the senior quarter mile and the Junior Jog, also quarter mile. Registration forms with more information can be picked up at Mason General Hospital Foundation office in the Shelton Gateway Center and Anytime Fitness, the YMCA and Shelton Athletic Club. Registration is also available at Runsignup.com.

The run/walk has been a favorite of local area runners for years. The event is coordinated by members of the Centennial Guild, an affiliate of Mason General Hospital Foundation. Proceeds are used to support a nursing scholarship in the memory of Kristi Armstrong, a longtime nurse at MGH. The courses for the 7-mile and 2-mile events begin at Shelton Valley and end on Railroad Avenue in front of the Post Office. The quarter mile events begin on Railroad and 7th Ave.
