COMMISSION BRIEFS

Coroner needs space in Belfair

Commissioners approved Mason County Coroner Jaime Taylor’s request for $45,875.02 for additional equipment, including a cooler, storage racks and a lift, at the Jan. 22 meeting with department heads.

Taylor also asked for an additional cooler space in Belfair.

“We have a lot of calls up there,” she said.

Belfair is about 40 minutes from the Shelton office and Taylor said it would be “fantastic” to have a permanent storage space in the north end of the county.

Commissioners discussed whether the additional space could be located at the new sheriff’s office in Belfair or nearby and asked staff to work on finding an appropriate area.

Taylor said the added racks were needed in Shelton “so we can accommodate eleven decedents here.”

She said Shelton racks were needed first.

Taylor also told the commissioners she loves the new coroner’s office at 126 Kneeland St.

“We are so blessed to be here,” she said.

Anne White retires

Commissioners recognized retiring Mason County Parks and Trails Program Support Technician Anne White for 16 years of work at the Jan. 16 meeting.

“I want to thank you for everything you’ve done,” Commissioner Sharon Trask said, and gave White a hug.

Commissioner Randy Neatherlin also thanked White for her service and for her friendship.

“I’ve always appreciated your kindness and generosity in the office, the good humor that you brought to everything that we do here at Mason County. We wish you all the best,” Commissioner Kevin Shutty said.
