City downtown homeless forum Oct. 11

The City of Shelton hosts a “Spotlight Shelton” community forum on homelessness from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Shelton Civic Center.

Some of the nonprofit groups that partner with the city will give presentations, and residents can share their thoughts.

The city’s new task force on homelessness, which includes members of the council, business owners, Mason County Commissioner Sharon Trask and others, met on Tuesday to hear from a Jefferson County commissioner to talk about what’s worked for the county.

The group’s last scheduled meeting is set for Oct. 11, before the community forum, where it will produce two short-term goals, two intermediate goals and two long-term goals. Those goals will be presented to the City Council.

New meters might have overcharged some

The City of Shelton reports that a new system of meter reads might have resulted in some customers being overcharged in this month’s utility bill.

Employees are training with the new system, which is intended to improve efficiency and transparency.

If your bill is higher than normal this month, call the city’s customer service at 360-426-4491 and the city will get a new, verified read from your meter. If the new read is different from the past read on your account, bill amounts might be adjusted, the city states.
