Selmer E. Solberg

Selmer E. "Sol" Solberg passed away at home on October 13, 2024, in Shelton, WA, at the age of 89. Sol was born in Lakota, North Dakota to Rose (Cepak) and Selmer Solberg, Sr. In his early years, Sol spent most of his time in Bemidji, Minnesota. Minnesota always held a special place in his heart.

Sol spent 20 years in the U.S. Air Force and advanced to Security Police Officer before his honorable discharge. During his service, Sol was stationed in numerous locations, including Korea and Iceland. After retirement from the Air Force, Sol worked as a jailor at Thurston County Jail, drove a bus for Intercity Transit, and along with his wife, Ruth, owned several taverns in Thurston County.

Sol was a quiet, kind, and much-loved man who enjoyed watching football and baseball, and especially enjoyed cheering on the Mariners and Seahawks. During football season, Sol would end his phone calls with "Go Hawks!" Sol was a jigsaw puzzle master and there wasn't a puzzle he couldn't complete.

Sol was the oldest of eleven siblings; he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and his stepdaughter, Lesleann Kangas. He was also preceded in death by his parents and siblings Gary, Roger, Steven, and Terrance.

He is survived by his sisters Arlene (Orville) Berg and Betty Houseman; his brothers Larry, Darryl (Betty), Paul (Debra) and Deane (Kathleen). Sol will be greatly missed by his children; Laurel (Jim) Dalebout, Tammy (Ken) Fromm, Scott (Monica) Solberg, and his stepchildren; Noel (Kathy) Magnusson, Karla (Joe) Hubbell, Susie (Lonnie) Paul, Cece Zenker, and numerous and grandchildren.

A private service will be held for the family. Arrangements are by McComb & Wagner Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelton, WA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care or the American Cancer Society.
