Herbert Phelps Smith, Jr., 77, born June 2, 1946 - died on May 8, 2024.

Herb grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania. As a boy, he hunted and fished to help provide for his family. At the age of 19, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam running rivers as a radar man. After serving in the Navy, he settled in the Pacific Northwest where he met and married his wife, Sharon (Martin) Smith. He worked various jobs in construction as a Shipfitter at Todd Shipyard and eventually as a Steelworker for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Sr. and Jessie Smith, his brother Bill and his wife of 46 years, Sharon Smith.

He is survived by his wife of seven years, Laura Smith; his three children Thomas (Karine) Smith, David (Kimberly) Smith, and Shara (Chris) Stuefen; sister Susan (Dan) Kerr; brother Michael (Yayita Mayorquin) Smith; six grandchildren, three step-children and seven step-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Herb spent many years as a volunteer EMT for the Grapeview Fire Department. He was a member of The Bridge Church for 25 years. He was a proud veteran, a beloved father and grandfather and a devoted husband, but his greatest title was Child of God. He will be missed by so many.
