Good News!

Kids' message

“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’” — Matthew 25:23

This is one of my favorite scriptures! It is part of a parable Jesus told that I want to share with you! Look at verses 14-29 in Matthew 25, and see what I’m telling you is true!

A man was going to a faraway country and he split up his goods with three servants. He gave one five talents, one two talents, and one one talent. Then he immediately went on his journey.

The man who got five talents traded his, and got another 5. So did the man who got two talents. He traded his two and got another two, so 4 in all. But the one who got one went and dug a hole in the ground that he hid his talent in.

When their master came back, the one with 5 brought them to the man and said, “Look, Lord, you gave me 5, I got an additional 5 more!” The one with two came forward, and showed he had gotten two more. The Lord said to them both, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.”

But the one who only got one talent, and hid his, had an excuse. He said he knew his Lord was a hard man, said he was dishonest, and he was afraid, so he hid it in the ground. He gave him back his one talent. The Lord said to him, “You wicked and lazy servant, you KNEW that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.”

Now maybe this is talking about money, but we can also think about our actual talents. Are we using them to glorify God? Are we using them to share God’s love with others?

Do you think, maybe, if we are wasting them on things of the world, we may lose them?

Do you see how the “Good News!” is always above these messages?

Do you know what that means?

The Good News is the gospel of Jesus Christ! And it IS Good News I get to share by the talent he gave ME to use — writing!

But if I wrote about bad and sinful things, He would be sad, and He could take that talent away from me, and give it to someone else. I don’t want to make Jesus sad, by misusing my talent, so I use my talent for good things that make Him happy!

I want to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.”

Don’t you?
