Water improvements coming to Angleside

Better water pressure and storage in the Angleside area is on its way after the Shelton City Council on Tuesday accepted a $1.8 million grant from the state Department of Commerce.

The council voted to give preliminary approval at its March 19 meeting.

The money will be used to design and construct water infrastructure improvements in the Angleside pressure zone.

According to the city report, the city last year became aware of some potential deficiencies in water pressure and storage issues within the pressure zone's reservoir.

City staff have been working with the state Department of Health to finalize the Water System Comprehensive Master Plan. The city hired BHC Consultants in February to address issues with the plan and design the improvements in the Angleside pressure zone.

Angleside reservoir is at 827 S. 15th St. The design and construction will include a design that includes a three-dimensional scan of the booster pump station, recommission of the upper Angleside booster pump station and upgrades to and replacement of the pumps at the lower booster pump station.

The water main will be replaced and electronic components upgraded.

The project started in February and is expected to be completed by December 2025.

The state grant agreement states, "This project benefits the public by ensuring the city's ability to provide a clean source of drinking water, adequate water fire protections, improved waterline pressure and increased storage volume for future growth. These improvements will enable the grantee to comply with Washington state Department of Health standards for adequate fire hydrant pressures and standby reservoir storage."
