Shelton girls golf

Shelton lost 30-15 to Rochester on Monday in the opening Evergreen Conference girls golf match of the season at Riverside Golf Course in Chehalis.

Andrea Fogo led the way for Shelton with 10 points. Gabby Stevens tallied four points and Cyann Mobley scored one point. Zariah Jackson and Kaysha Lefthandbull didn't record a point for the Highclimbers in the modified stableford scoring system.

"As far as golf and the need for lots of experience, the Highclimbers are a very inexperienced team," Shelton coach Lorna Martinson told the Journal. "In this competitive group today, we had only two returners with any golf experience and they were the leaders in scoring for us. Sophomore Andrea Fogo led the way and made a 60-foot putt on hole 4 from just off the green for a nice bogey. Both Andrea and Gabby have some golf background and I am relying heavily on them to help lead the new players, which they have done an excellent job at so far this season. This is just a very difficult sport to just pick up and play well, so I am looking for lots of improvement. Our new players, Cyann, Zariah and Kaysha are all athletic, so I am expecting things to start clicking with them soon as I have already seen great improvements. As their consistency improves, we will see more good results from these beginning players."

Rochester's Audry Williams earned medalist honors with 11 points.
