Gilmore edging Frazier for City Council seat

The updated results of the Nov. 7 general election show Tom Gilmore with a 49-vote edge over Mark Frazier for the member 5 position on the Shelton City Council, and the Hood Canal School District's $33.5-million building bond falling short.

Those are the numbers from the ballot count the Mason County Auditor's Office released Monday. The next ballot count is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday. The results are slated to be certified on Nov. 28. Of the 44,701 registered voters in Mason County, 15,255 cast ballots, for a voter turnout of 34.13%.

"I thought it was pretty good," Marie Stevenson, the county's election administrator, told the Journal. About a couple hundred ballots remained to be counted, including "cure" letters from among the 619 challenged ballots, she said.

In the other Shelton City Council races, George Blush received 824 votes for 57.74% to serve as council member 1, with Tristen Smith getting 593 votes for 41.56%. Melissa Stearns received 842 votes for 60.79% to unseat member 2 incumbent Kathy McDowell, who got 537 votes for 38.77%.

The Hood Canal School District's building bond needed a 60% "super majority" to pass. The measure received 1,323 "yes" votes for 58.1%, and 954 "no" votes for 41.9%.

In the contest for Mason County Superior Court judge, Dave Stevens received 8,489 votes for 57.16% and Cadine Ferguson-Brown 6,317 votes for 42.53%. In a close race for the Hood Canal School Board, Jimmy Harris had 1,066 votes compared with Rebecca Roadman's 1,031 for position 4.
