Kenneth Simmons, Jr., 68, of Shelton, Washington, passed away on October 27, 2023.
Ken, fondly known as Kenny or Papa Kenny, was born to Kenneth (Bud) Simmons, Sr. and Kathryn (Delores) James (née Lynn) in Shelton, WA. He served in the United States Navy as a Seabee, where he learned his skills as a diesel mechanic. He worked for Simpson Timber Company for many years but ended his career working for Serco as a naval contractor repairing, maintaining, and upgrading naval ships around the world before retiring in 2017.
Ken is survived by his daughters Marcy Bayon, Stacy Hawthorn, and Kacey Simmons, and grandchildren, Alexus, Ethan, Austin, Ian, Ava, and Devin. He is also survived by his younger brother Marty Simmons, sister Janet Owens, and many nieces and nephews. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents Bud and Delores; brothers Randy Kingsbury, Denny Kingsbury, and Walt Kingsbury; sister Roxie Rogers; and daughters Kari and Alyssa.
Ken loved to hunt, fish, and cook, and stay active. He was very creative and enjoyed working with his hands, including rebuilding old cars, painting, and woodworking. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, being on the water in his boat, or just sitting around the fire with friends enjoying a drink. He had a quick wit, was loved by many, and will be missed greatly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 4th, 2023, at the 40 et 8 Club - 113 W. Cota St, Shelton, WA at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Down Syndrome Association or the American Cancer Society, in Kenny's name.
