Abandoned puppies rescued

Will be available for adoption when older

The Humane Society of Mason County is providing around-the-clock care for seven puppies found abandoned in a Walmart bag at the Matlock logging gate Oct. 17.

The puppies were less than two days old and still had their umbilical cords attached, according to HSMC.

The finder called police to report the incident and HSMC Executive Director Katherine Johnson said she hopes the sheriff will pursue criminal charges for abandonment and abuse.

“At HSMC, we believe in not just rescuing animals but also in education. We are actively working toward raising awareness in our community so that situations like these don’t occur. We want community members to understand that abandoning animals is never the answer. By providing education and resources, we hope to change mindsets and ensure that animals are given the care and love they deserve,” Johnson said in a statement.

HSMC is asking the public for donations to cover the puppies’ medical care and food.

They will be up for adoption on the humane society’s website, hsmcwa.org, as soon as they are old enough to be spayed and neutered, Johnson said.

Adoption fees are $250 for dogs and $125 for cats and all pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption, according to HSMC.
