Shelton School District seeks Instructional Materials Committee members

The Shelton School District is looking for parents and guardians, staff and residents to be on its new Instructional Materials Committee.

The IMC monitors the evaluation and recommendation of instructional materials for adoption by the Shelton School Board. The IMC’s role is to review the recommendations of adoption committees and educational staff and ensure that recommended materials conform to applicable state and federal laws; goals and/or learning standards of the district and state; and evaluation criteria approved by the IMC.

According to the district, “the IMC in its review also ensures that adoption decisions were fair and unbiased to potential selections under evaluation and that the processes included appropriate representation from stakeholders.”

The responsibilities of the IMC members include attending all scheduled meetings, adhering to “agreed-upon group norms,” and contributing to the group’s work.

The district states members must display the following qualities: the ability to listen to and consider all perspectives and points of view; interpersonal and communication skills contributing to group work and discussions; the ability to abide by majority decisions of the committee; and the ability to maintain confidentiality to ensure fairness in commercially competitive transactions.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 17, and the form is available on the district’s website under “News & Announcements.” Committee members will be notified by email of their application status by Oct. 20. The IMC’s first meeting is from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in the downstairs conference room at the district headquarters.

Shelton student excelling at Spokane college

Austin Bowling of Shelton earned a place on the honor roll for the summer quarter at Spokane Falls Community College.

To qualify, a student must earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Belfair native earns master’s degree

Lane Marie Bellmont-Olson of Belfair graduated from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, with a Master of Arts in applied psychological science.
