GETTING OUT

Two weeks of local Halloween events

Halloween in Mason County begins this weekend.

Simpson Railroad hosts its Halloween Event starting this weekend at the former Simpson sorting yard 10 miles west of downtown Shelton at 10138 W. Shelton Matlock Road.

Climb aboard the Pumpkin Pickers Special between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, or 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 21 and 22. Ride the rails though the sorting yard and visit the haunted coach. Children can enjoy activities at the destination and pick a pumpkin at the patch. Tickets are $15 and are available in advance at simpsonrailroad.org or at the site.

A spookier experience awaits on the Evening Fright Train from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and Oct. 20 and 21. "Spooks and ghouls" might be joining the train along the way. Tickets are $20, and children younger than 12 are admitted with an adult.

Organizers advise patrons to dress for the weather, because all the events are outdoors.

Hunter Farms offers Halloween items from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily through Oct. 31 at 1921 state Route 106 in Union. Owned by the Hunter family for five generations, the farm has offered pumpkins from its patch since 1983, when it designated an acre for pumpkins for preschool and kindergarten patches.

An all-ages Haunted House is hosted from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 and 31 at 703 West Railroad Ave. in downtown Shelton. Organizers say the house gets "scarier as the night moves on."

Admission is $13. Tickets are available at tinyurl.com/4tu48uj9.

Little Creek Casino Resort offers a "Spooktacular Extravaganza" called Treats at the Creek from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 30. The event is billed as a safe and fun family-friendly trick or treating event. Admission is free.

Shelton Downtown Merchants present the Friday the 13th Night Market from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday in downtown Shelton. The theme is "Friday the 13th/metaphysical/Halloween."

The group and the Shelton-Mason County Chamber of Commerce also host trick-or-treating at businesses from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 in West Railroad Avenue in downtown Shelton, which will be closed to vehicle traffic between First and Fifth streets.
