Bulldogs take down Knights, Eagles

The North Mason volleyball team earned wins against Bremerton and Elma last week.

The Bulldogs swept Bremerton 25-14, 25-16 and 25-19 on Sept. 21 in Belfair.

Senior outside hitter Jordan Young had three aces and three kills. Junior outside hitter Adrianne Tupolo recorded two aces and 10 kills and junior middle blocker Adrianna Tupolo had eight aces, six kills and one block. Junior setter Kalli Wynn had three aces, 15 assists and two digs.

"This was a great week for our varsity," Kanoe Lilly told the Journal in an email. "Three matches in a row can be tiring but the winning teams are those who can keep their focus and play smart through to the end. I'm especially impressed with our servers. We met our team goal of 90%, even while working on our placement strategy, pulling the opponent's offense off balance."

North Mason defeated Elma Sept. 20 at home in five sets (25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 22-25, 15-11).

Young tallied two aces, five kills and seven digs, and Adrianne Tupolo totaled one ace, 10 kills and six digs.

Adrianna Tupolo recorded five aces, 17 kills, three blocks and four digs. Wynn had three aces, 33 assists and seven digs.

"Our team is learning to trust each other and the strategies that work for us," Lilly said in an email. "Playing smart isn't always easy but learning from mistakes and quickly regrouping is the key to our success. In every match communication is improving and our offense is getting more and more consistent. Six matches and one tournament in two weeks is exhausting, but as a team we can persevere together. All while having fun playing this awesome sport."

Port Angeles earned the win at home against North Mason on Sept. 19 in five sets (25-20, 17-25, 26-24, 21-25, 14-16).

Young tallied four kills and eight digs and Adrianne Tupolo had eight kills, six blocks and 13 digs. Adrianna Tupolo recorded eight kills, three blocks and four digs and Wynn had three kills, 14 assists and four digs.

"Though our team is compensating for early season injuries and illnesses, we came together to play strong," Lilly said. "Our offense is executing well while defense is playing with more vision. Our front row blockers have been working on being more mindful and timing is improving. Natalya Garcia fired up our squad by adding six blocks to the overall team stats. We're making small adjustments and we're elevating our quality of volleyball."

The Bulldogs (3-4, 1-3) tried to make it a third straight win against Olympic on Tuesday in Bremerton. North Mason will play Kingston at 6:45 p.m. in Belfair in an Olympic League game.
