The second ballot count in the Aug. 1 primary election didn’t change any of the results, which means George Blush and Tristen Smith will be the finalists for a Shelton City Council seat and Mason County Fire District 16’s proposed six-year EMS levy failed to reach the 60% super majority for passage.
With the ballot update Aug. 3, voter turnout was 28.97%. Of the county’s 23,027 registered voters, 6,671 ballots had been tabulated. The results of the next ballot count is scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday, with certification slated for Tuesday.
In the contest to whittle the Shelton City Council member No. 1 seat race from three candidates to two for the Nov. 7 election, Blush received 644 votes for 60.47%, Smith 279 votes for 26.2% and Mary Eagleson 133 votes for 12.49%. Write-in candidates received nine votes.
James Boad, owner of the Wilde Irish Pub in downtown Shelton, holds the seat but declined to run for re-election after one four-year term.
Voters in Mason County Fire District 5 were overwhelmingly approving the expansion of its board of commissioners from three to five with 3,109 “yes” votes for 70.59%, and 1,295 “no” votes for 29.41%.
The Mason County Fire District 16’s six-year EMS levy has 424 “yes” votes for 54.08%, and 360 “no” votes for 45.92%. The measure needed 60% to pass.
