Precious and beloved Ramona Maxine Grayson-Nersund, age 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Mesa, Arizona, in the loving arms of her granddaughter on June 28th, 2023.
Ramona was born December 16, 1928 to William Clay and Mabel Nana (Tavis) Hart on a farm northwest of Hardner, Kansas. She was the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Tavis of Nevada, Missouri and Mr. and Mrs. Eusibius Hart of Kiowa, Kansas. She was the youngest of three children. Her brothers Delmar and Junior doted over her. Her mother Mabel sadly passed away when Ramona was 15. Ramona's dad raised her with the help of nearby relatives. Ramona attended high school in Wichita, Kansas, Alhambra, California and graduated from Alva High School in Alva, Oklahoma. She went on to attend Northwestern State College in Alva, Oklahoma, Highline College in Des Moines, Washington and Arapahoe College in Littleton, Colorado. She received degrees in business administration as well as transportation engineering.
Ramona worked for Ken R. White Engineering in Denver, Colorado and The Boeing Company; she retired after 33 years of service. She worked many positions which included being a Secretary, Rivotor, Parts Buyer and Inventory Analyst. One of Ramona's expressions was, "If it isn't a Boeing plane, I am not going".
Ramona spent her life living in Kansas, California, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Washington State, Colorado and Arizona.
Ramona married her high school sweetheart Don Grayson June 20, 1947. They had two children Ron and Barbara. They were married for 33 years.
Ramona later married the love of her life, her Norwegian Fisherman, Elias Nersund on July 28, 1984 in Bellevue, WA at the First Presbyterian Church. The two of them enjoyed spending time with family as well as traveling, dancing, golf and entertaining friends. Elias and Ramona became Snowbirds spending six months in Washington State and six months in Arizona.
Ramona was a fun person who had a passion for waterskiing at Lake Limerick, Lake Washington and Lake of the Ozarks, dancing, ceramics, traveling, reading, painting, sewing, knitting, crocheting and cooking. Ramona loved spending time with her many friends and family eating, drinking and playing games. Everyone who had the opportunity to meet Ramona would instantly be attracted to her love for life, her contagious smile, laughter, and quick wit.
Ramona is survived by her children, Ron Grayson of Redmond, WA and Barbara Davis of Lakewood, WA. She was predeceased by her husband Elias who passed away May 13th, 2004. Her grandchildren are Joel Pullman of Bonney Lake, WA, Robin Morrone of Gilbert, AZ, Somer Lycksell of Roy, WA, Mark Grayson of Woodway, WA and Steve Grayson of Edmonds, WA. She is survived by 10 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ramona was the Matriarch of our family and will be missed by her friends and family. Memorial Services will be held on September 30th, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Limerick Clubhouse - 790 E Saint Andrews Dr. Shelton, WA.
