Neil August Jerrells

Neil August Jerrells died at his home in Shelton after a yearlong battle with lung cancer on Thursday, May 25th, 2023. He was 83 years old. Neil was born February 10, 1940, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Thew Hahn and Florence Morrison.

Neil held many jobs during his lifetime, but his favorite was being a machinist for the aerospace industry. He also owned Steamboat General Store for many years and came out of retirement to drive bus for the Shelton School District. Neil was blessed with two families during his lifetime. He married the love of his life, Julie (Gil) Jerrells on October 10, 1962, and they had two daughters, Lea (Jerrells) Sorley and Paulette Jerrells. After 29 years of marriage Neil lost Julie in 1991 to breast cancer. 12 years later Neil found love again and married Beverly (Hicks) Jerrells on April 26, 2003. They celebrated 20 years of marriage this year. Neil's passion was cars, particularly street rods. He joined the Olympia Street Rod Association over 30 years ago. He has owned many street rods, but his favorite was his 1929 Model A which he left to his grandson Taylor, who will now carry on Neil's legacy. Neil was preceded in death by his first wife Julie, and daughter Paulette Jerrells.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Jerrells, daughter Lea Sorley and her husband Dan, grandchildren Jennifer (Eric) O'Quinn, Taylor Rex, and Alexandria Sorley, and his great-grandchildren Carter O'Quinn and Olivia O'Quinn. He is also survived by his siblings, Harlan Jerrells, Joan and Joyce, and also by his stepchildren Ellen and Tyler plus numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
