Donald Vaughn Anderson

Donald Vaughn Anderson, our beloved father, love of our mother's life, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother went to be with our Lord on June 3, 2023, at the age of 93.

Donald was born in Tacoma, WA on April 1, 1930, to Eugenia and Virgil Anderson. He had a brother, Robert Abel Anderson two years later and another brother, Wesley Anderson who lived for just two years.

When he was a boy of about seven years, his parents purchased a homestead in Allyn, WA where the family moved to from Tacoma. They had a barn, home, fruit orchards, cows and chickens, hay to harvest, a garden and outbuildings to attend. Don never enjoyed the chicken care! (I don't think Bob did either!)

Working the land they acquired dump trucks, bulldozers, and other equipment to provide land clearing, gravel and topsoil services along with their logging business, Anderson & Sons Logging Company. In December they operated seasonal Christmas tree lots in Bellevue and Tacoma. Later, the Anderson boys both drove school buses to help make their livings and support their families.

After graduating from Shelton High School in 1948 he enlisted into the Navy being stationed in California and Hawaii.

In 1955, Don and the love of his life, Sally Brown, were married. They were very happily married for 68 years.

In the early mid-60's Allyn and the surrounding Puget Sound areas were becoming more popular which inspired the Anderson family to build a lake and plat some of the land. The Army Core of Engineers helped with the planning and design for the dam to create the lake. There was a lot of logging, land clearing, dam building, road building work with rides in dump trucks and bulldozers for us kids.

In 1965 the first phase of LakeLand Village was completed with a lake for swimming and fishing and lots for sale. There was also a tennis court and grass airstrip. Virgil and Eugenia Anderson, Robert and Marilyn Anderson, and Don and Sally Anderson all built new homes within the development where they raised their children. They later purchased property on Stretch Island and built a new home where they enjoyed the beach with generations of their family.

After retiring Don and Sally enjoyed long travels to Mexico, Hawaii, California, Sweden, Cabo san Lucas, Sun Valley, and Jackson Wyoming.

Don and Sally were blessed with five children; Tammie and husband Don Zech, Terrie Anderson, Cheri Anderson Gale, Jeri and husband Perry Hester, Steven and wife Lori Anderson. They have 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bob. Donald Vaughn Anderson, our beloved, passed away with loved ones at his side.

While we miss him so much, we will always have our love for him in our hearts....

LOVE WINS!

A service to celebrate Don's life will be held for family and friends at the Belfair Community Church on June 24, 2023, at 3:30 p.m.
