Pais quits Fire 12 commission

Mason County Fire District 12 commissioner John Pais resigned at a special meeting Friday in Matlock.

Fire 12 called the special meeting to tell the community the internal investigation, conducted by an attorney retained by district commissioners, will be posted to the website this week. The attorney was paid with taxpayer money.

Prior to the end of the meeting, Pais announced his resignation, effective immediately.

“Now that the investigation is over, and it will be posted and it did what it was intended to do, with a clear conscience, I am resigning my position as commissioner, effective today,” Pais said during the special meeting.

Following an executive session, Wilder and the commissioners approved a motion to release the internal investigation report. The results were not posted by the time the Journal went to press Wednesday.

“Due to the length of the investigation report that was done with the recommendation of the auditor, it will all be posted on our website next week but it’s lengthy so it will be posted,” Wilder said during the special meeting. “The report will be there next week so you’ll have it to see. That’s where we are with the investigation, it’s complete. The attorney is working on a couple of things. He was sick. We will get that buttoned up as well but we will release the investigator’s report.”

According to state statute, if a vacancy exists on a special purpose district with one position vacant, the remaining members of the governing body will appoint a qualified person.

The Fire 12 website requests anyone interested in the commissioner vacancy to send a resume to [email protected] before the June 20 meeting.
