Shelton boys tennis
Shelton’s Jayden Lovingfoss and Wyatt Wagner play in the opening round of the state 2A boys tennis tournament Friday at Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.
Lovingfoss and Wagner will face a Fife opponent in the opening match. If the Shelton duo wins at least one match, they will compete Saturday for a chance to earn a medal.
Shelton track
The Shelton boys finished seventh and the girls ninth at the 2A District IV track and field championships at Columbia River High School in Vancouver.
In boys results, Shelton senior Jacob Miller won the 1,600-meter race in 4 minutes, 22.99 seconds. Miller also placed second in the 3,200-meter race in 9:43. Senior Jaydon Blackburn finished in third place in the 3,200-meter race right behind Miller in 9:45.
Shelton junior Anthony Sanchelli punched a ticket to state with a third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 138 feet, 10 inches.
In girls results, Shelton junior Moa Skold took second in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 10 inches, a new personal record. Junior Lily Bennett placed third in the 3,200-meter race in 11:51. Senior Olivia Henry earned third place in the javelin with a throw of 105 feet, 10 inches. Junior Maryjane Hageman earned a spot at state with a fourth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.01 seconds.
Shelton girls tennis
Shelton senior Hannah Pratt’s season ended after competing in the 2A District IV girls tennis tournament at Steamboat Tennis Center in Thurston County.
Pratt was the No. 2 seed out of the Evergreen Conference and faced a Mark Morris opponent in the first round, falling in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. She faced an R.A. Long opponent in the next match and lost 6-1, 6-2 to end Pratt’s season.
North Mason track
North Mason senior Kezlie Thygesen won the 3,200-meter race at the 2A District 2/3 track and field championships at Memorial Stadium in Renton.
Thygesen won the race in 11 minutes, 15 seconds, and finished third in the 1,600-meter race in 5:20.95. Sophomore Adrianna Tupolo finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 105 feet, 10 inches, earning a spot in the state tournament.
Junior Avery Ballein finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 5 inches, to punch a ticket to state.
Mary M. Knight track
Mary M. Knight freshman Logan Green qualified for the state 1B track and field meet at the 1B District 1/2/3/4 track and field championships at Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma.
Green finished sixth in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 2 inches, to earn a spot in Yakima. Green placed 13th in the triple jump.
Freshman Andiana Ziegler placed ninth in the 400-meter race, 12th in the 800-meter race and 14th in the 1,600-meter race.
Freshman Zoie Anderson placed 13th in the 800-meter race and 12th in the high jump.
