Deadline Monday for Harstine scholarships

The Harstine Island Women’s Club and the Judy and Charles Chase Scholarship Fund Management Committee are offering scholarships to full-time residents of Harstine Island who are entering or continuing their post high school education.

Applicants must have obtained a diploma with an accredited high school program or earned a GED. Applications will be accepted through Monday. Winners will be announced by May 31.

Applications and scholarship details are available at Shelton, CHOICE, Cedar and North Mason high schools, Olympic College Shelton, South Puget Sound Community College, The Evergreen State College and Gravity Learning Center. Applications are also available by contacting the Harstine Island Women’s Club Scholarship Committee at HIWC at P.O. Box 1635, Shelton 98584. Pioneer hosts community dinner Wednesday

The Pioneer School District hosts its third free Community Dinner at 5:30 p.m. May 17 in the middle school commons.

The Pioneer fifth grade choir will perform, followed by a presentation on cybersecurity by Joel Williams, the district’s technology director, and Spencer Jones from Hood Canal Communications. The two will offer advice on protecting personal information from cyberattacks.

The menu features tacos, rice, chips, salsa and beans provided by El Guadalajara Mexican restaurant. Cake and drinks are also available.

Scholarship for law enforcement student

Charlie’s Vision, a local nonprofit group, is again offering a $1,000 scholarship to any senior who is graduating from a local high school, private school or homeschooling who is considering a career in law enforcement. Applications are at http://www.charliesvision.org. Information: 360-275-8411.
