Grant will secure police parking lot

The Shelton City Council on Tuesday officially accepted a $199,820 state Department of Commerce grant from the 2022 state capital budget to create a parking lot for the Shelton Police Department.

The project includes installing fencing from the Shelton Civic Center to the east side of Fifth Street, and enclosing the existing street with fences and gates to limit access. Cameras and brighter lighting will be installed.

The project requires vacating Fifth Street between Grove and Cota streets. The city is not required to provide any matching money.
