Mount St. Helens geology talk tonight

Steve Cox, retired from the U.S. Geological Survey, presents a free seminar on the dynamics of Mount St. Helens and the geology connected with it at 7 tonight at Shelton Christian Church, 115 W. Arcadia Ave. The Shelton Rock and Mineral Society presents the event at its regular monthly meeting.

Hood Canal Improvement Club hosts speaker

Hollie Stark from the Washington Emergency Management Division will talk about "Preparing for the First 72 Hours of an Emergency" and "Wildlife Safety in Our Area" at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Union Fire Hall, 50 E. Seattle St., Union.

The Hood Canal Improvement Club presents the program. It begins with social time and refreshments before the speaker. Everyone is welcome.

United Way dessert auction May 12

United Way of Mason County hosts a spring dessert auction from noon to 2 p.m. May 12 at the Shelton Civic Center.

Tickets are $15. Lunch will be served. All proceeds support the group's programs to help residents in need. To purchase a ticket in advance or offer to help, call the agency at 360-426-4999.

Community Market May 13 in Union

The Hood Canal Improvement Club hosts the Community Market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 13 at the New Community Church of Union, 951 E. Dalby Road, Union. Lunch is available. Local arts and crafts will be on sale inside the church, and outside, repurpose, reuse and resale items.

Spring plant sale May 20 on Harstine

The Harstine Island Garden Club host its Spring Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 20 at the Harstine Island Community Hall, 3371 E. Harstine Island Road N.

Love INC seeks donation of vehicle

Love INC (In the Name of Christ) is seeking a vehicle to help fulfill its mission to help people in need.

The group's vehicle has 250,000 miles on it and needs a new transmission. The nonprofit uses it to haul food, propane, furniture, clothing, blankets, supplies for children and other items and cannot afford to replace it.

The group helps more than 1,500 local families each year. To make a tax-deductible donation of a used van or SUV with less than 175,000 miles on it and in running order, call Leanna Shipp, the group's director of operations, at 360-462-5683.

'Pirates of Penzance' opens May 13 in Shelton

Connection Street Theatre stages the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta "The Pirates of Penzance" at 7 p.m. May 13 and 20, and 2 p.m. May 14 and 21 at the Faith Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 1212 Connection St., Shelton.
