Book sale Saturday at Shelton Library

For the first time in seven years, the Friends of the Shelton Library will host a book sale. It's from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the lower level of the library at 710 W. Alder St.

Hundreds of books will be on sale for $1 for paperbacks, $2 for hardbacks. Only cash will be accepted. Customers are encouraged to bring their own boxes and bags.

Friends of the Shelton Library will use the sale proceeds to support library programs and events.

The donated books have been kept in an off-site storage facility, said Daris Devaney, a volunteer with Friends of the Shelton Library. She pointed out that the library hosts a regular book sale section on the first floor, with the same prices.

As for Saturday's sale, "There's a lot of fiction, Westerns, mysteries are very popular," Devaney said. "We have a lot of Louis L'Amour in leather-bound editions." Also in abundance are science fiction, children's, self help, travel, and home and garden books, she said.

Book sale patrons who haven't visited in the past year might be surprised by the renovations, which include devoting the lower floor to children and teens, Devaney said.

With the help of the all-volunteer group, the library has recently hosted Science Magic with Jeff Evans, the West African Kora with Sean Gaskell, and during spring break last week, a magician.

Friends of the Shelton Library are sponsoring a free program called Colorful Conversations, where participants color art and converse, from 1 to 2 p.m. April 27, May 25, June 22, July 27 and Aug. 24 at the library at 710 West Alder St.

Children are welcome to attend with a participating adult. Light refreshments are provided, and reservations are not required. For more information, call the library at 360-426-1362.
