Public comment on SR 302 corridor

The public is invited to comment on the future of the state Route 302 corridor in Mason and Pierce counties.

According to a news release, the state Department of Transportation has begun a study of Route 302 in the Victor area to identify potential transportation system improvements. This portion of Route 302 has experienced road settlement and sloughing and can be triggered by heavy rain, and it has led to temporary closures and rough roads.

WSDOT is hosting an online open house through March 21 to give the public an opportunity to offer insight and comment about the area's conditions. People can share issues, concerns and priorities that will assist with the study and recommend strategies.

Coroner identifies man shot to death

The man who was killed in a Feb. 28 homicide in the 2300 block of Jefferson Street in Shelton has been identified.

Edwin Ramos Pablo, 21, was identified as the victim by Coroner Jaime Taylor in a Mason County Coroner Facebook post. An autopsy was performed March 3, and the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest. The manner was homicide.

Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the shooting.

Shelton Police and the Mason County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident and encourage anyone with information to contact MACECOM at 360-426-4441.

County prevention summit April 14

Mason County Public Health announced the Mason County prevention summit for April 14 at the Skokomish Tribe Community Center.

According to a Facebook post, the goal of the summit is to provide enriching training on prevention strategies, networking and resource sharing for youths, volunteers and professionals working toward prevention. The focus will be on promoting ways to improve public health and to integrate prevention efforts in the community.

Morrell appointed to executive committee

President and CEO of Peninsula Credit Union Jim Morrell has been appointed as a member at large to the executive committee of the board of directors for the Credit Union National Association.

Morrell has worked at credit unions for 30 years, including the past 11 years at Peninsula Credit Union.

"I am honored and excited to join the executive committee of the board of directors for CUNA," Morrell said in a news release. "I look forward to working throughout the year to steer CUNA to further the mission of credit unions and continue to promote financial well-being for all, especially our members at Peninsula Credit Union."

Heart O' the Hills campground closed

Oympic National Park announced that Heart O' the Hills campground south of Port Angeles will be closed for repairs to its water system from Wednesday to May 12.

According to a Facebook post, it is a needed update that will eliminate frequent leaks that can be disruptive to visitor services and safety. Check olympicpeninsula.org/lodging to find other campgrounds and accommodations.

County Republicans host Lincoln Day Dinner March 25

Mason County Republicans host its annual Lincoln Day Dinner on March 25 at the Mason Transit-Community Center, 601 West Franklin St. in Shelton.

A news release submitted by Mason County Republicans says speakers planned at the event include Jason Rantz, a Seattle radio and television commentator, and teenager Kellyanna Brookings.

Glen Morgan will be master of ceremonies.

The event also features fiddle music by the Katie Jane Band and an auction.
