Shelton freshman Tawan Benedict was the district champion in the 100-yard butterfly as the boys swim team finished second at the District IV 2A Championships at Dick Mealy Pool at Mark Morris High School in Longview.
Benedict finished the 100-yard butterfly in 55.72 seconds, two seconds faster than the second-place finisher. He finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.33.
Charlie Morson finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.51 and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:41.60. Andrew Karr earned third place in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:06.45 and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:51.20.
Judah Holzgrove finished fourth in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.17 and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.75. Jayden Lovingfoss finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.95 seconds.
The 4x50-yard medley relay team of Lovingfoss, Benedict, Wyatt Anthis and Holzgrove finished second in 1:51.54. The 4x50-yard freestyle relay team of Wyatt Anthis, Holzgrove, Karr and Morson finished third in 1:41.27.
The 4x100-yard freestyle relay team of Morson, Karr, Lovingfoss and Benedict placed second with a time of 3:43.72.
The Shelton swimmers who advanced will compete Friday and Saturday at the state 2A swim meet at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
