Two arrested for Kneeland assault

The Shelton Police department arrested two suspects Jan. 27 for an assault at Kneeland Park.

According to police documents obtained through a public records request, Officer Warren Ohlson stated he arrived at Kneeland Park for a disturbance call and found a man who was bleeding from the left side of his face. The man said he was walking downtown and came across two women, whom he did not know, and exchanged combative words. The women followed the man to Kneeland Park, where the verbal confrontation continued. The women began breaking bottles and one of the women struck the man with a broken bottle.

The two women ran from the location.

According to Ohlson, one of the women was in the legal system with multiple warrants based on the man’s description and was known to frequent a residence near Kneeland Park. Officer Mike Gettle and Ohlson drove to the location and tried to contact the residents. The women who matched the description provided by the man came out of the house and were taken into custody.

According to Ohlson, one of the women provided a statement, saying she had been in some type of relationship with the man in the past and the man started flashing gang signs and flipping them off. She said they started arguing and the two women broke bottles. The other woman turned her back before she told her to run after striking the man.

The suspect with multiple warrants was booked into the Mason County Juvenile Detention Center for her warrants, an assault 2 charge and an assault 3 charge. The friend was taken into custody as an accessory to assault 2 and was released after an interview. The incident has been referred to the city prosecutor.
