Olympic College offers courses

Olympic College Shelton is offering courses in creative writing, flagger certification and forklift certification.

The class Creative Writing — Making Scenes is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays Jan. 25 through Feb. 23. The class explores how to develop scenes through selling, exposition, action, conversation, pacing and clarity. Sign up by calling 360-432-5400 or go to tinyurl.com/anm42zsj.

The class on flagger certification is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 14. Become a certified flagger by learning safety for employees and the public and how to manage interference from vehicles and pedestrian traffic, proper use of traffic-control devices and other flagger duties. Certification will be issued the same day after passing the examination.

The class on forklift certification is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 25. Learn to maneuver a forklift through an obstacle course. The instruction includes machine design, product handling, pre-shift inspection and on-site logistics. Review job-related state and federal requirements. Certification will be issued upon successful completion.

One injured in hit-and-run Monday

A 54-year-old Belfair woman was injured in a hit-and-run collision on state Route 106 on Monday afternoon.

According to a news release from Washington State Patrol, the Belfair woman was driving a Volkswagen Jetta east on state Route 106 near milepost 18. An Audi driven by a 39-year-old Belfair man was driving fast and did not yield to slower traffic, hitting the Jetta and continued driving.

The Jetta followed the Audi before stopping at Sunset Deli to call law enforcement. Law enforcement drove to the registered owner’s address and he was contacted by law enforcement.

The Belfair woman was transported to St. Michaels Medical Center in Silverdale. A 46-year-old Belfair man was a passenger in the Jetta, but was not injured in the collision. The Audi driver could have pending charges following an investigation.
