Reception for photographer Friday

The Mason County Historical Society Museum hosts an artist’s reception for photographer John Tylczak from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the museum at 427 West Railroad Ave., downtown Shelton.

The photographer’s show is called “Loggers Laments and Other Tales from the Dark Woods.”

Shelton YMCA hosts Welcome Week

The Shelton YMCA welcomes visitors during Welcome Week activities Friday through Sept. 18.

The free events include a resource fair and donation drive to collect school supplies for Oakland Bay Junior High School teachers from 3 to 7 p.m. today and community Zumba from 11 p.m. to noon Friday.

Volunteers needed for downtown warming center

The Mason County Warming Center in downtown Shelton is seeking volunteers to help people come in from the cold and the rain.

Crazy Love Ministries operates the center. Volunteer shifts are available from 8 a.m. to noon daily. Duties include hospitality, food serving, closing and cleanup. Training will be provided. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and be able to pass a drug/alcohol urinalyses test, which the nonprofit group will pay for. They must also “be ready to demonstrate consistent commitment in their desire to serve their neighbors,” the group states in a news release.

Blood donations at Shelton church

People can donate blood today, Friday and Sept. 22 and 23 at the Church of Nazarene, 1331 E. Shelton Springs Road, Shelton.

Grief support seminar today

“Reconciling Life’s Losses,” a new grief support program, begins at 2 p.m. today at Faith Lutheran Church, 1212 Connection Ave., Shelton.

Pastor Terry Oliver leads the 12-week seminar. The seminar features an approach to grief support known as “Companioning Care,” developed by Alan Wolfelt of Fort Collins, Colorado and detailed in his book, “Understanding Your Losses.”
