In 1948, the Astoria Bridge didn't exist and Mary had to take a ferry to cross the Columbia River. The bridge opened in 1966 and is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America. It is a little over 4 miles long. It was also the final segment of U.S. Highway 101 between Olympia and Los Angeles.
