Shelton school board seeks new member

July 29 is the deadline to apply for an open position on the Shelton School District Board of Directors.

Marilyn Ward, who was elected to a four-year term last fall, is moving out of the district. Three years remain on her term. Applications are available at the district's website at sheltonschools.org.

The completed applications must be returned to the Alison Nutt at the district office by 5 p.m. July 29.

The board meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at Mountain View Elementary School. It also occasionally gathers for special meetings and work sessions.

To be eligible for the position on the five-member board, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, a qualified voter, live in the district, and be able to read and write in English.

Board directors can request and receive a $25 stipend each month for their work on the board. If they receive the stipend, they are considered a state employee and are subject to requirements by state and local agencies.

One requirement is meeting the governor's COVID-19 vaccination mandate before starting work on the board, which includes being approved for a medical or religious exemption. Requests for exemptions and accommodations are received and processed through the district's human resources department. For more information, contact Linda Arnold, the district's executive director of human resources, at [email protected] or 360-426-1687.
