Shelton students stage musical 'Freaky Friday'

What happens when a magic hourglass causes a bickering teenage girl and her mother to switch bodies?

That's the premise of "Freaky Friday: The Musical," staged by the Shelton High School Drama Club at 7 p.m. Friday and 2:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday in the school's Performing Arts Center.

The doors open a half hour before the shows. Admission is free, with a suggested donation of $10 for adults, $5 for students.

More than 50 students are involved in the production. The show combines the talents of the theater, choir, entertainment production, textiles and culinary arts students. Theater instructor Wendy Burr directs.

The musical is based on the novel "Freaky Friday" by Mary Rogers, with the book by Bridget Carpenter, lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. Jody Foster and Barbara Harris starred in the 1976 film of the story. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan played the mother and daughter in the 2003 remake.
