5 Climber girls, 6 North Mason boys move on
Led by senior Ryan Mackiewicz's commanding win in the 170-pound final, the Shelton High School boys wrestling team finished third overall at the Evergreen League subregional wrestling tournament on Saturday at the Mini-Dome in Shelton.
W.F West won the team title with 386 points. Aberdeen was second with 208.5 and Shelton tallied 174.5.
In all, nine Shelton wrestlers qualified for this week's Region 3 championship meet Saturday at Washougal High School.
Mackiewicz dominated the mats at the Mini-Dome all day Saturday, pinning Rochester's Jassiel Tinoco in 2 minutes, 59 seconds in the quarterfinals and Tumwater's Aaron Olyan in 4:53 in the semifinals.
In the title match, Mackiewicz faced W.F. West's Waylen Land, winning a 13-1 decision after nearly pinning Land on three separate occasions.
The Climbers' Tyler Fleshman (126 pounds), Cameron Egbert (132), Drew Schirman (138) and Mario Boxley (182) advanced to the championship match of their respective weights.
Shelton's Daniel Tausa (285), Trevor Rodeback (195) and Logan Peach 132) finished third, and Cole Borden (120) and Jaxon Wolfe (160) were fourth. All nine qualified for the regional round.
Shelton girls
All five members of the Shelton High School girls wrestling team qualified for regionals after finishing in the top five at the girls 3.1 subregional Saturday at Aberdeen High School.
Shelton's Elibeth Cervantes defeated teammate Marie Marbet to win the 145-pound championship, while the Climbers' Ali Clifton was second at 115 pounds.
Baylei Doran (140) and Angela Anderson (195) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The regional championship is Saturday at Aberdeen High School.
North Mason
The North Mason High School boys wrestling team have six wrestlers qualify for the Region 2 championship after finishing in the top four at the Olympic League sub-regional meet Friday at Kitsap County Fairgrounds.
The Bulldogs' Jake Mathews (152 pounds) and Ethan Fore (285) each finished second.
Izaiah Smith (126) and Cole Tate (132) won third-place matches.
Blake Evans (132) and Colby Amick (195) were fourth.
The Region 2 championship is Saturday at Orting High School.
