Shelton High School senior pitcher Kyle Gerchak, seated, poses with his family after signing a scholarship offer to play baseball at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. Gerchak, who was the Shelton-Mason County Journal's All-County Pitcher of the Year in 2021, said Ottawa University had everything he was looking for in a school to continue his baseball career, including a good engineering program. He said he likes the turf baseball field installed in 2020 at the Dick Peters Sports Complex. He also said he enjoys the town of Ottawa and it reminded him of Shelton. Gerchak said he is excited for his senior season of baseball and knows he will miss his friends and teammates from Shelton when he leaves for college in the summer.
