Dedicated to the citizens of Mason County, Washington since 1886
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16. NKJV
What was the best present you ever received from your parents?
From my dad I got self-esteem, confidence, ambition, and moral support.
My relationship with my mom wasn’t great. She wasn’t very nice to me, but one Christmas...
I very rarely asked for dolls. I liked books, word games, puzzles-anything that made me think. I had opened all my presents, and was happily playing with one in the living room alone, when my mom came in and knelt beside me.
She had a metal green box, and she said, “I almost forgot this present. I didn’t even wrap it, but it’s an “official” teacher’s supply box. There is tape, paper clips, a stapler, and staples, pens, stickers...you love to gather the kids in the neighborhood together and be their schoolteacher, so I thought of you when I saw this.”
Why did it mean so much to me? It was an ugly green box! What meant so much to me was that she took the time to think about ME. To think about what I enjoy, and what I might be good at. It was a special moment where all I felt was her love.
What about the gifts you get that you don’t like? The hideous clothes you refuse to wear, or the IPhone you wanted two months ago, before the new one came out?
Gifts come from a person’s heart. They usually take time to think about what the person likes and needs, but there are those who know you so well, they give gifts they know will make you happy.
God did that for us. He gave us Jesus. We don’t have to accept the gift but, if we do, He will give us eternal life.
I don’t know about you, but right now I picture myself running straight into Jesus’s outstretched arms, and crying, “Thank you, Lord, thank you!! You are the best present ever!!”
