Woman found dead at High Steel Bridge

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to the Journal an incident of a woman found dead at the High Steel Bridge this weekend.

The Journal did not have more information by press time but will report more information as it becomes available.

Belfair pedestrian killed in accident

A 22-year-old Belfair man was killed Friday while walking along state Route 300 near Belfair.

According to a news release, Alexander M. Kendall, 22, was declared dead at the scene. A 2014 Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 27-year-old Belfair man was eastbound on Route 300 while Kendall was walking along the eastbound lane. The car attempted to avoid the pedestrian, but instead struck Kendall. The road was clocked for almost four hours.

The driver was not injured and there are no charges against the driver at this time.

Port Orchard man injured in accident

A 66-year-old Port Orchard motorcyclist was injured and transported to Mason General after an accident March 18 on state Route 3.

According to a news release, the man was southbound on Route 3 near Grapeview when the motorcycle left the road to the right and came to rest in a ditch. The man was wearing a helmet. The cause of the accident and charges are pending an investigation.

Hurricane Ridge lodge undergoing rehabilitation

Olympic National Park will begin a $11-million project that will close the Hurricane Ridge area to the public until May 25.

According to a news release, the money is coming from the Great American Outdoors Act and public access to Hurricane Ridge will be available on Memorial Day weekend. Throughout the next year, the Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge will undergo an extensive rehabilitation to improve the building, bring the lodge into compliance with codes and accessibility standards and ensure weatherproofing.

Visitors to Hurricane Ridge this summer should be aware of some changes. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks. More information is available at http://www.nps.gov/olym.
