Love INC workshop focuses on trauma

Love INC (In the Name of Christ) of Mason County offers a free 12-week workshop on healing from trauma that began Wednesday at the Mountain View Alliance Church, 314 J. St., Shelton.

The faith-based “Reboot Recovery” class is presented from 6 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday, with a light dinner at 6 p.m. Roy Harrington, a retired Army Reserve colonel who is in the process of becoming a Washington State Patrol field chaplain, wife Diana, and Andrea Sehmel teach the course.

Soup & Song Benefit Concert on Saturday

Love INC (In the Name of Christ) hosts its annual Soup & Song Benefit Concert and Dessert Auction on Saturday at Shelton Presbyterian Church, 1430 E. Shelton Springs Road, Shelton.

The doors open at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available at the door or prior to the event by calling the Love INC office at 360-462-5683.

In addition to the dessert auction, raffle drawings will be conducted for a quilt and baskets with three themes – cooking with the family, take care, and family fun time.

The event helps Love INC and its 25 partner churches provide people in need with clothing, blankets, furniture, backpacks for kids, diapers, medical equipment and financial help.

The event will feature music performed by local musician Rocky Holbrook, and harpists Emily and Ellen Hageman.

Kickoff meeting for Improvement Club

The Hood Canal Improvement Club will have its 2023 kickoff meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Union Fire Hall, 50 E. Seattle St., Union.

The proposed 2023 budget and a calendar of upcoming events and activities will be presented. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call HCIC President Nancy Johnson at 206-604-5871.

Polar Bear Plunge Feb. 11 in Union

The Hood Canal Lions Club hosts the 13th annual Polar Bear Plunge from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 11 at Alderbrook Resort and Spa.

Plungers collect donations to help the club provide funding for the Mason County Sheriff’s Department’s chaplain fund, K-Team and Marine Patrol, and the Mason County volunteer fire departments in Union and Hoodsport/Lake Cushman. The 2022 Polar Bear Plunge raised more than $10,000 to local emergency services.

Businesses that donate $300 or more will have their name/logo on the back of this year’s Polar Bear Plunge T-shirt. For more information, email [email protected].

The Hood Canal Lion’s Club also raises money for sight and hearing examinations, glasses and hearing aids for people in need; food banks in Shelton and Hoodsport; students in the Hood Canal School District; sponsoring Camp Leo Diabetes Summer Camp and Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital; the quarterly cleanup of McCreavy Road and state Route 106; and community organizations, emergency services and charities.

Kiwanis seafood dinner/auction

The Pioneer Kiwanis Foundation hosts its annual seafood dinner and auction March 25 to benefit youths of the Pioneer School District and Mason County.

Money raised at the event will go to six scholarships for Pioneer Middle School eighth-graders to be used for post-high school education, and four scholarships for high school graduates from the Pioneer School District attending Cedar, CHOICE, North Mason and Shelton high schools.
