Shelton girls bowling

The Shelton girls bowling team lost narrowly to Aberdeen 1,482 to 1,447 in an Evergreen Conference match Jan. 5 at Rainier Lanes in Aberdeen.

Ezra Winslow bowled her high game of 100 and the varsity bowled its high game of 146. All nine bowlers increased their match averages and Kylee Moore increased her average to 121.75.

Shelton competed in senior night on Tuesday against Black Hills at Westside Lanes in Olympia and wrap up the regular season today against W.F. West at Fairway Lanes in Centralia.

Shelton boys basketball

Shelton earned its fifth straight win with a 53-39 win against Aberdeen on Jan. 5 in Aberdeen.

The Highclimbers (5-5, 2-3) faced Rochester at Terry Gregg Court on Wednesday and travel to take on Tumwater on Friday in a league game.

Shelton girls basketball

The Shelton girls earned an Evergreen Conference win against Centralia before falling to Aberdeen last week.

Shelton took down Centralia 51-38 on the road Jan. 4 before coming home and losing 51-34 to Aberdeen on Jan. 6.

Shelton took on Rochester on the road on Tuesday and hosts Tumwater today in a league game.

Shelton wrestling

The Shelton boys started off 2023 with a 39-29 win against Aberdeen on Jan. 5 in an Evergreen Conference wrestling match at the Mini-Dome.

The Highclimbers won the Battle at the Bridge Invitational on Jan. 7 at Hockinson. Richard Lingle at 113 pounds, Ty Fleshman at 120 pounds, Phenix Oleachea at 145 pounds, Cameron Huisingh at 160 pounds and Ian Wilsbach at 220 pounds all won their respective tournaments. Aiden Dodge at 113 pounds and Daniel Tausa at 285 pounds each finished second. Drew Schirman at 132 pounds and Mario Boxley at 182 pounds finished third for the Highclimbers.

Shelton was back on the mats Wednesday on the road against Tumwater in a league dual.

Mary M. Knight boys basketball

The Mary M. Knight boys basketball team dropped a pair of Coastal League games last week to North River and Wishkah Valley.

The Owls lost 71-13 on Jan. 4 to North River on the road.

Mary M. Knight returned to Matlock on Friday and fell to Wishkah Valley 40-38. Tanner Morris led the Owls with 15 points. Micah Palmer added 11 points and Gabe Walters chipped in 10 points.

The Owls trailed 13-7 after one quarter and 21-11 at halftime. MMK made a run in the second half, outscoring Wishkah 27-19. MMK had a chance to tie or win the game at the buzzer, but an attempt didn’t fall.

MMK (0-7, 0-3) hosted Oakville on Tuesday before traveling to Lake Quinault on Friday. The boys are back home Saturday against Three Rivers Christian in a nonleague game.

Mary M. Knight girls basketball

The Owls won both games against North River and Wishkah Valley in Coastal League girls basketball action last week.

Mary M. Knight won 46-12 against North River in Cosmopolis on Jan. 4 and followed it up on Jan. 6 with a 61-32 win against Wishkah Valley in Matlock.

MMK hosted Oakville on Tuesday and traveled to Montesano to face Montesano’s JV on Wednesday. The Owls host Three Rivers Christian on Saturday in a nonleague game.

North Mason wrestling

North Mason finished third as a team at the Battle of the Axe tournament Jan. 7 in Port Angeles.

The tournament was a team tournament, where each team wrestled the other, and the team with the most points advanced. North Mason took down Sequim 53-21 in the first round. The Bulldogs won their second-round match against Franklin Pierce, 63-12, and won against Kingston 60-15 in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals. Forks defeated North Mason 60-15 in the semifinals, forcing the Bulldogs into a third-place match against host Port Angeles.

North Mason won 39-36 over Port Angeles in the third-place match — with wins by Syven Derda, Charles Broughton, Pedro Salvador, Jake Mathews, Ethan Fore, Xavier Powell and Blake Evans.

The girls wrestled Jan. 7 at the Kelso Invite. Sadie Evans was the lone placer for North Mason at 155 pounds, finishing third. Evans earned wins against Tahoma, Yelm and Richland opponents to reach the quarterfinals. Evans defeated White River’s Nancy Woodard in the quarterfinals by pin and won by pin against Hood River Valley’s Lauraine Smith in the semifinals. Evans lost the championship match to Kentwood’s Sarah Wright by a 6-1 decision.

North Mason travels to Kingston on Wednesday for a triple dual with North Kitsap and Kingston. The Bulldogs are in another tournament Saturday at the Island Invitational at Bainbridge High School.

North Mason boys basketball

North Mason fell on the road Bainbridge 68-14 in an Olympic League boys basketball game on Jan. 6.

The Bulldogs (0-8, 0-6) hosted North Kitsap on Tuesday and hosts Kingston today in league games.

North Mason girls basketball

The Bulldogs lost 52-31 to Bainbridge in an Olympic League girls basketball game in Belfair on Jan. 6.

North Mason (5-3, 3-3) traveled to Poulsbo to take on North Kitsap on Tuesday and hits the road again today to play Kingston in a league game. The Bulldogs host Mason County rival Shelton on Friday in a nonleague game.
