Two Bulldogs win North Mason Winter Classic medals

North Mason's Winter Classic wrestling tournament was pinned due to weather before Christmas, but Jake Mathews and Pedro Salvador did some pinning of their own Dec. 28 as each won their respective weight classes.

The Bulldogs finished fourth as a team at the North Mason Hawkins Memorial Classic tournament Dec. 28 in Belfair.

Salvador wrestled at 152 pounds and defeated North Kitsap opponents by pin, against Solomon Furne in the quarterfinals and Mason Holmes in the semifinals, before winning the championship match in a 7-1 decision against Central Kitsap's Christian Cartagena.

Mathews wrestled at 160 pounds and won by pin in the semifinals against East Jefferson's Jameson Henery before winning the championship match by pin against Klahowya's Logan Wallis.

Ethan Fore placed second for the Bulldogs at 220 pounds. Fore pinned Tenino's Koy Knox and North Kitsap's Andy Jezek before falling in the finals to Lincoln's Dre Tarrant Sio-Fetaui.

North Mason's Garcia Stites placed third at 170 pounds. He started the tournament with a pin of North Kitsap's Brayden Tobin before losing in the semifinals. He bounced back with a win by pin against Port Angeles' Bryson Graham in the third-place match.

North Mason is back on the mats Saturday for the Battle of the Axe at Port Angeles.
