Shelton girls basketball

The Shelton girls basketball team snapped a 22-game losing streak Dec. 16 with a 37-24 win against Olympic in Silverdale.

The Highclimbers fell to Black Hills 49-43 at home Dec. 13 in an Evergreen Conference game.

Shelton (1-4, 0-3) faces Kingston at 4:30 p.m. today at Terry Gregg Court in a doubleheader with the boys team and hits the road to face River Ridge at 6 p.m. Friday in Lacey.

Shelton dropped two games against Black Hills and Capital last week in nonleague and Evergreen Conference games.

The Highclimbers lost 55-51 to Black Hills on Dec. 14 in Tumwater in an EvCo game. Shelton lost 76-34 to Capital in a nonleague game Dec. 17 in Olympia. Shelton defeated River Ridge 79-46 on Tuesday at home.

Shelton (1-5, 0-3) hosts Kingston at 6 p.m. today and hosts Olympic at 7 p.m. Friday in nonleague games.

Shelton girls bowling

The Highclimbers lost to Rochester 1,367 to 1,278 in a Evergreen Conference bowling match Dec. 13 at Fairway Lanes in Centralia.

Shelton’s Kaitlyn Aronson bowled a high game of 138 and Alivia Holte recorded a high game of 148. Shayla Kiehn, Abbie Hirzel, Aronson and Holte each bowled above their average for both games.

Shelton has the winter break off and is back in action Jan. 5 at Rainier Lanes in Aberdeen against the Bobcats.

Shelton defeated Aberdeen 96-70 in an Evergreen Conference boys swim meet Dec. 14 at the YMCA of Grays Harbor in Hoquiam.

Charlie Morson won the 200-yard freestyle for Shelton with a time of

2 minutes, 8.47 seconds, and won the 100-yard freestyle. Tawan Benedict won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:13.12, and won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.98. Andrew Karr won the 500-yard freestyle in 6:28.67.

The Shelton 200-yard medley relay team of Jayden Lovingfoss, Benedict, Wyatt Anthis and Judah Holzgrove won with a time of 2:00.65. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Karr, Coy Carter, Morson and Wyatt Anthis won with a time of 1:48.70. Shelton’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Morson, Karr, Holzgrove and Benedict won with a time of 4:02.73.

Shelton is off for winter break and is back in action Jan. 10 at home against Aberdeen.

Shelton wrestling

Shelton finished 18th out of 61 teams at the HammerHead Invitational on Dec. 16 and 17 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton.

Shelton’s Ty Fleshman made the quarterfinals at 126 pounds, earning two wins by pin. Mario Boxley reached the quarterfinals at 195 pounds, earning three wins by pin.

Shelton is off for winter break and will be back on the mat Jan. 5 against Aberdeen in the Mini-dome.

North Mason girls basketball

North Mason earned a nonleague win against East Jefferson and an Olympic League win against Bremerton in girls basketball action last week.

The Bulldogs won 46-34 against East Jefferson in Port Townsend on Dec. 17. North Mason won 39-34 on Dec. 13 in Belfair in an Olympic League game.

North Mason fell to Sequim 53-27 in an Olympic League game on the road Dec. 15.

The Bulldogs (4-2, 2-2) traveled to Silverdale on Dec. 20 to take on Klahowya in a nonleague game before winter break. North Mason will resume play Jan. 3 in Bremerton against Olympic.

North Mason boys basketball

North Mason dropped three games last week to Bremerton, Sequim and East Jefferson.

The Bulldogs lost 70-61 in Bremerton on Dec. 13 in an Olympic League game before losing 60-56 at home Dec. 15 to Sequim in a league contest. North Mason hosted East Jefferson on Dec. 17 and lost 60-45.

North Mason (0-6, 0-4) traveled to Silverdale to face Klahowya in a nonleague game and will resume Olympic League games Jan. 3 against Olympic in Belfair.

North Mason girls bowling

The North Mason girls bowling team wrapped up its 2022 schedule with two wins against Sequim and Port Angeles.

The Bulldogs defeated Sequim 7-0 at HiJoy Bowl in Port Orchard on Dec. 13 before a 5-2 win against Port Angeles at HiJoy Bowl on Dec. 15 in Olympic League matches.

North Mason (6-4, 6-2) is back in action Jan. 10 at All Star Lanes Bowling against Bremerton.

North Mason wrestling

The North Mason boys finished 26th at the Hammerhead Invitational on Dec. 16 and 17 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton.

Jake Mathews was the highest finisher for the Bulldogs, taking third place at 160 pounds. Mathews won his first two matches by fall before losing by decision. He battled back through the consolation bracket and won the third-place match in an 11-10 decision against Burlington-Edison’s Gus Menne.

Pedro Salvador finished in fourth place at 152 pounds. Salvador won his first match by pin before losing in an 8-6 decision. He won his next five matches to reach the third-place match, falling to Graham-Kapowsin’s Ethyn Mowlds in a 6-3 decision to finish fourth.

The North Mason girls placed 19th at the Hammerhead Invitational.

Sadie Evans finished second at 155 pounds. She won by pin in the quarterfinals and semifinals, but fell by pin in the championship match against South Kitsap’s Monica Kaiser.

Ariel Evans finished fourth at 130 pounds. She won by pin in the quarterfinals, but lost in the semifinals. Evans won by pin against Spanaway Lake’s Elizabeth Castanda to claim fourth.

Sydney Amick finished sixth at 155 pounds. She lost her opening match, but won by pin in her next two matches and lost to Yelm’s Vanessa Alberts in the fifth-place match.

The North Mason girls are back in action today in Belfair, hosting a tournament. The boys host the North Mason Winter Classic at 7:30 a.m. Friday in Belfair.

Mary M. Knight basketball

Mary M. Knight girls basketball dropped games to Pe Ell and Winlock last week in nonleague games.

The Owls (2-3) lost 48-35 to Pe Ell on the road Dec. 16 before falling 39-27 to Winlock on the road Dec. 17.

The Owl boys basketball team lost two nonleague games to Winlock and Chief Kitsap Academy last week.

Mary M. Knight lost 51-10 in Poulsbo on Dec. 13. MMK lost 66-11 in Winlock on Dec. 17, and fell 43-15 on Friday to Pe Ell’s junior varsity squad.

MMK’s scheduled doubleheader Tuesday at Quilcene was canceled due to weather, but the Owls hope to reschedule. The Owls return to the court Jan. 3 against North River in Cosmopolis.
