Holiday Magic arrives in downtown Shelton

A “reverse” parade, performances by school choirs, photos with Santa Claus and the lighting of the Christmas tree are among the highlights of the Holiday Magic events staged from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in downtown Shelton.

The Kristmas Town Kiwanis Club and Shelton Downtown Merchants host the events on a stretch of West Railroad Avenue, which will be closed to vehicles.

Friday’s offerings include the lighting of the Christmas tree at Post Office Park. Fire pits will be lit, and kids can enjoy a ride on the Kristmas Kiwanis’ tiny train. Children can also create holiday crafts. Shelton Cinemas screens the movie “Polar Express” at 4 p.m. Friday, free of charge with the donation of nonperishable food.

For the second consecutive year, a “reverse” parade will be staged at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The floats and performers are stationary and patrons walk among them.

Shelton Downtown Merchants are offering a “Shop Shelton First” rewards card. Participants will receive a stamp on their cars for every $25 spent downtown.

After 10 stamps, the card is full and patrons can enter a drawing for a large basket of downtown wares and other prizes.
